Majed Chergui, has been selected as the 2026 recipient of the William F. Meggers Award, conferred by Optica, the leading international society dedicated to the advancement of optics and photonics.
The award recognizes Majed Chergui’s pioneering contributions to ultrafast linear and nonlinear optical and X-ray spectroscopy, as well as his seminal studies on the electronic and structural dynamics of (bio)chemical systems and materials. These research activities form the scientific foundation of the CHIRAX project, which aims to develop advanced X-ray spectroscopic approaches for the study of molecular chirality in the liquid phase.
Established in 1970, the William F. Meggers Award is among the most prestigious international honors in spectroscopy and is presented to scientists whose work has significantly advanced the field.
This distinction follows another major international recognition: he was also recently awarded the Great Arab Minds Award in Natural Sciences, a prestigious international recognition honoring scientific excellence in the Arab world, presented by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.
